Hangar door service at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC)

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan is the field we can reach fastest — it sits minutes from our Westminster base, beside Broomfield. With roughly 476 based aircraft across three runways, including around 43 jets, BJC has the most varied hangar stock on the north metro: corporate hangars with large bifold and hydraulic doors, older sliding-door hangars, and rows of T-hangars, all on the same field.

The closest major field to our base

Proximity genuinely changes what we can offer at BJC. It is a short drive rather than a cross-metro trip, which makes scheduled maintenance routes efficient and makes us realistic about response when a door goes down. The variety here is the other defining feature. A corporate hangar on the field has essentially nothing in common with a T-hangar row two taxiways over — different spans, different door types, different owners and completely different budgets — so the honest answer at BJC is that the right repair depends heavily on which kind of hangar you are in. BJC also sits where the foothills meet the plains, which puts it squarely in the path of the downslope windstorms that come off the Front Range. Wind is not a footnote here; it is a primary design and failure consideration for any large door.

Wind, and the variety of doors on one field

Downslope wind events along this stretch of the Front Range regularly produce gusts well beyond ordinary design conditions, and hangar doors are the largest moving surface on the building. What we see afterwards is consistent: bottom-rolling doors blown out of their track, sliding-door panels racked out of alignment, bent guides, and bifold doors whose latching and seal hardware has been overloaded. Much of that is preventable with correct latching, wind locks where appropriate, and keeping track and guide hardware in adjustment so a door is not already half-compromised when the wind arrives. On T-hangar rows the more mundane recurring problem is track and roller condition — grit, ice and debris in a bottom track will bind a door and eventually damage panels and rollers. We service every door type on the field, from any manufacturer, including Schweiss.

FAQ

Hangar doors at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan — common questions

How quickly can you reach a hangar at BJC?
BJC is the closest major field to our Westminster base, so it is among the fastest places we reach. Priority and after-hours emergency response is reserved for Planned Maintenance clients; everything else is scheduled as promptly as the route allows.
Our sliding hangar door came off its track in a windstorm. Is that repairable?
Usually yes. Track damage, racked panels and bent guides are common after a downslope wind event and are frequently repairable without replacing the door. We will assess the track, guides, rollers and structure and give you an estimate before any work.
Can hangar doors be protected against Front Range wind events?
To a meaningful degree. Correct latching, wind locks where the door design supports them, and keeping track and guide hardware properly adjusted all reduce damage. A door already out of adjustment is the one that fails first.
Do you work on T-hangar doors, or only large corporate hangars?
Both. T-hangar and light-GA doors are a routine part of what we do at BJC, and we price small jobs the same straightforward way — a trip charge plus labour, with an estimate before the work.
